Fridley Ice Arena Demolition

Completion Date : November 2015

The project was completed in three phases: abatement of hazardous materials and soil correction, demolition of the ice rink buildings and site amenities, and final restoration of the site. Abatement of hazardous material included asbestos abatement and contaminated soil remediation under an approved MPCA RAP. The sand fill located within the footprint of the two former ice rinks was aerated to remove elevated contractions of carbon tetrachloride. The excavated soils were set on the existing asphalt parking lot 1.5′ thick and was tilled three separate times over a ten day period and placed back inside the ice rinks to be used as unrestricted fill. The demolition included the removal of two ice arena buildings and site amenities. The site restoration included grading the site, placement of 5,000 CY of topsoil and seeding the site.
