Rachel was contracted by PCL Construction to demolish and reconstruct the existing plaza and the snow monkey exhibit at the MN Zoo. The first major challenge was to construct the causeway from the existing trail, through the lake and tie it to the existing plaza. The area inside of the causeway was dewatered, muck was removed and sand was imported to fill in the old lake bed to above the water level of the lake. Once this was done the demolition crew was able to access the site and complete the demolition of the site and structures. New stormwater utilities were installed to extend the existing discharge pipes at the building line out to the new edge of the lake. Some of the stormwater is now being diverted into a pretreatment structure as well. Rachel was able to construct this project within schedule.
