Jefferson High School Demolition

Alexandria, MN
Completion Date
September 2015

After the construction of the new High School for the Alexandria area was complete, Rachel
Contracting was hired to remove the former Jefferson High School. The entire project took
about 12 weeks to complete. Of that 12 weeks, 6 weeks were dedicated to the removal of all
asbestos and special wastes from the buildings. Rachel Crews carefully segregated all waste
materials and diverted approximately 12,000 tons of materials for recycling. Recyclable concrete/
masonry materials were processed and crushed on site and re-utilized in the redevelopment
of the site. This saved the City much wear and tear on the surrounding streets from anticipated
truck traffic that would have been necessary if materials were exported in lieu of
utilized on the site.
